Culture is what managers do on Tuesday.
14 August 2025
Most culture work fails because it lives in the wrong place. It lives in the away-day, the values poster, the all-hands keynote.
Real culture lives in the small repeated moments — the Tuesday standup, the way decisions get made over Slack, who gets interrupted in the meeting, what happens when someone misses a deadline.
If you want to change culture, change the rituals managers run. Not once. Every week.
Three rituals we recommend most often:
1. A weekly 1:1 that always covers 'how are you, really?' before tasks.
2. A 10-minute team retrospective at the end of every week, with one thing to keep and one thing to change.
3. A monthly 'decisions log' — every meaningful decision, who made it, why.
None of these are exciting. All of them outperform a values poster.
